How SIW got here — three stages, none of them retroactively rewritten.

This page preserves and exposes how the Semantic Inquiry Workspace evolved: an early working prototype, a governed Release Two implementation accepted as evidence, and the current Release Three / Build 15 integration candidate. It is a record of sequence, not a claim that earlier stages hold current architectural authority.

Governance / lineage ruleChronology does not collapse into authority. A prototype existing earlier does not make it accepted architecture. A historical UI being preserved does not make it the current implementation. Release Two is not relabeled as Release Three. A preserved external reference is not the active runtime. Each stage below is labeled with what is actually established for it — where a date or status is not established in the current site/record, it is marked as such rather than invented.

Stage 01 · Historical

Generation 0 — Original SIW Prototype

Working Prototype Date/period: not established in the current site record — marked as such rather than invented.

The earliest preserved interactive SIW surface: semantic tree navigation, explicit context assembly, simulated semantic reflection, branch exploration, and provenance inspection. All interactions are simulated — no live model calls, no backend dependency, no governance runtime beneath it. It demonstrates interaction ideas that Release Two later formalizes with real governance; it does not itself carry that governance.

Release Two — Three-Panel Semantic Inquiry Workspace

The governed semantic inquiry workspace developed before the current Build 15 implementation, preserved unmodified at its own externally-hosted deployment. It visibly demonstrates the Inquiry / Prompt Composer, governed context and Active Context, the Governance Inspector (Lifecycle Standing, Epistemic Standing), explicit activation, the Authorization Boundary (Object validation → Receipt validation → Standing guards → Atomic apply), and the separation of inquiry, candidate knowledge, and consequential authority.

Its deployment identifier (c1-20260824-121203) indicates a build/deploy timestamp of 2026-08-24; this is read directly from the identifier itself, not independently corroborated by a separate dated record in this pass.

This preserved surface does not know about Book One, Canon Access, the Reader, or any Build 15 work — opening it will not show anything built after it. It is not relabeled as Release Three, and its historical UI is left unaltered rather than modified to match the current implementation.

Stage 03 · Current development candidate

Release Three — SIW / Three-Plane, Canon-bound integration

Current Build 15 candidate Ongoing/local — no fixed release date; not a production or public-deployment claim.

The current SIW surface resolves real Book One / Canon objects through Canon Access and is integrated into the Reader / Three-Panel workspace — the same governed object identity, version, representation, and standing shown in the Reader's Context panel is resolved a second time through SIW, live, not asserted. Its operational architecture is designed to connect through the Genesis API Middleware / Model Gateway to selected frontier models and knowledge-management environments; see the Build 15 convergence status table for exactly what is and is not live today.

What each stage does and does not establish

Three separate questions, not one arrow.

Mirrors the same discipline already stated on Governance Lineage: a relationship should say what it means rather than asking a single arrow to carry several meanings at once.

Prototype ≠ accepted architecture

Stage 01 existing first does not make its simulated interactions accepted governance. Release Two later formalized governance beneath similar interaction ideas.

Historical UI ≠ current implementation

Stage 01's and Stage 02's preserved surfaces are left as they were. Neither was restyled to resemble Stage 03.

Release Two ≠ Release Three

Stage 02 is a separate, externally-hosted, standalone deployment. It does not know about Book One, Canon Access, the Reader, or Build 15 work.

Preserved reference ≠ active runtime

Stage 01 and Stage 02 are preserved, frozen surfaces you can still open. Stage 03 is the only stage that is an active local development candidate.
